Writing for engineering
Suzzane Weyn
Final Reflection:
This class is to help students demonstrate engineering identities and to look towards the future as an engineer. This class just doesn’t only focus on scientific information, but help future engineers write at an advanced level about what is needed in an essay. This class is the first stepping stone to demonstrate how to think and write as an engineer.
My first paper is the egg description paper. This paper was to analyze an egg as best as possible. At first it was quite weird that out first assignment was writing about an egg since this was an engineering class. When writing the assignment, it was quite difficult to explain what an egg is and what is it purpose. I was able to get help from my parents and get their opinion on the matters of what I am writing and stated that they are considered to be very important objects that are used every day for human general needs. With that information I was able to write about the process of what an egg is which makes it very simple to focus on now that I was able to get help from other people, to be a good writer is sometimes getting other views. My second paper is Distant waves paper. In this assignment it was very simple to understand the rules of what is needed we read a piece of text from a book called Distant waves and to analyze the whole information and give our own opinions about the book and give certain themes about the book as well. This assignment was quite easy to do especially with the formatting of the assignment making the assignment making it very clear. However, what was hard was I guess writing it out getting all the thoughts together to make the assignment make sense. Overall, it was quite interesting to analyze a certain book that deals with engineering and imagination, but hard to give the opinion portion of the assignment. My third paper is Brooklyn Bridge paper. This paper was also quite simple to write out, we were to write about a book about the Brooklyn bridge and certain part of the bridge it played a major role in. Firstly, I didn’t know which part to choose since all parts are of the bridge are very important so, I decided to write about from the ground up which was the foundation which is the caissons. It was hard finding outside information about caissons and what is it function. The positive side of the paper was getting the information organized and finding the references for my paper. In general, this paper was a very hard and simple to gather all my information in to make it seem very understandable with complex ideas of the foundation of the paper. My fourth paper is Persuasive email. This assignment was very simple to write nothing was hard about it; we were to make a dream project and once we made it, we were to write an email to a billionaire about funding the project. There was nothing hard to this email. I’m mostly use to writing persuasive emails I use to do them all the time in high-school. Overall, there was nothing hard about this email. The final assignment was Lab report paper. This assignment was to make up an imaginary lab about the dream project we were to encompass a trial of how our dream project would like in reality if our dream project was to be published by a billionaire. Overall, I had difficulty in starting the lab because I was thinking to logical about the project as if it was real, but I was able to focus on the imaginary parts first then put in the logical information which took a little bit of time organizing. At the start it really didn’t go according to plan of how I had it mapped in my head, but I was able to get in done on time.
Throughout the time of doing these assignments in this course, some were quite difficult to organize my information out on the paper, but some were easy and straight to the point. The information Professor Weyn gives me is very helpful and it helped me grow as a writer and as an (soon to be) engineer. This class teaches you how to think logically and also with a little bit of imagination, because that is what engineers are suppose to do they think rationally about projects with a little bit of imagination that makes the project seem worth doing for the future of humanity.
